Here are some Eco Terms to help you better understand what they mean and how you can start living your best eco-friendly lifestyle.
GREEN: Shopping green is a very broad term. It's used to describe anything that benefits the environment. For example, buying products that are energy efficient, are used or reusable, made with recycled content, or are recyclable and have no or less packaging.
ECO-FRIENDLY: A product and/or act of living with intent, that doesn't harm the planet. For example, everything from production to packaging needs to be safe for the environment. Living in a way where your focused on not creating harm to the environment and to prevent as much harm from occurring to the environment through your interactions with it. Being eco-friendly is about changing the purpose of low you live.
SUSTAINABLE: There are many different view points on this concept on how sustainability can be achieved. Sustain means, gives support to, to hold up, to bear, or to keep up.
Sustainable is an adjective for something that is able to be sustained, for example, something that is "bearable" and "capable of being continued at a certain level."
Sustainabiliy is usually defined as the process and actions through which human kind avoids the depletion of natural resources, in order to keep an ecological balance that doesn't allow the quality of life of modern societies to decrease.
ZERO WASTE: Zero waste means avoiding resources to follow a linear route and ends up in landfills and our ocean. For this, people must REFUSE what they don't need, REDUCE what they're getting, REUSE it and recycle or compost.
The Zero Waste Movement is a lifestyle that encourages people to use all types of resources in a circular way. ultimately, eliminating waste, composting reusing, remanufacturing and finally recycling so it doesn't end up in landfills and our ocean.
BIODEGRADABLE: The ability of things to get disintegrated (decomposed) by the action of micro-organisms such as bacteria of fungi biological (with or without oxygen) while getting assimilated back into he environment. There's no ecological harm during the process.
COMPOST: Biodegradable solids, such as, food scraps. Compost means: decayed organic material used as a plant fertilizer (black gold).
